Biography

Mark McKellen was born and educated in Northern Ireland, where he began recording contemporary bands on the rock scene professionally, as well as engineering live sound in venues. He subsequently settled in Scotland, where he worked as a venue engineer in Henry’s Jazz Cellar in Edinburgh, working with musicians including Brian Kellock, Ryan Quigley and Colin Steele. He has worked both live and recorded sound for ECM Records, Fence Records, Agony Acres, Fredag Music, and Chemikal Underground amongst others. 

He continues to work extensively within the live music scene, working around the UK and Worldwide. He is the Technical Manager for the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, as well as having toured with artists such as Tommy Smith, Marilyn Mazur and Arild Andersen.
